There’s nothing better than watching a horror movie when you’re in the same situation as them. You’re isolated and alone, they’re isolated and alone. It’s the perfect movie to watch when you’re stuck at home, especially during a snow storm. (Too bad it’s spring)
The Thing is set in Antarctica shortly after a team finds a UFO frozen in the ice. As you can probably guess, it doesn’t go well for them. (To see what actually happens to them, watch The Thing prequel from 2011). The Thing assimilates the host and looks completely normal… well until it doesn’t.
The Thing starts out as a frozen body, but turns out to almost be a bacteria and can spread from any contact. So sneezes are dangerous and don’t touch your face. They didn’t practice social distancing. You’ll see how that goes…
Anyways, The Thing makes it to the base of Americans station in the arctic wasteland and starts to terrorize them and makes them question who can trust who. Kurt Russell steals the show as MacCready, the helicopter pilot who is extremely proficient with a flamethrower (Also the king of Diabetus himself Wilford Brimley is in it as well). You’ll be wondering the whole movie who is a thing and who isn’t.
It’s from the early 80’s so the effects while awesome, are a little bit dated (But trust me when I say they look better than the prequel effects) so a lot of people might not enjoy it. That being said, it’s great. If you like a movie that has you questioning everything you know, The Thing will do it. It’s my favorite horror movie of all time, so I definitely recommend you give it a chance.
